Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between Real Clay, Clay Composite, ABS, and Plastic chips? > Real Clay chips are the kind most commonly used in casinos due to their supperior feel and sound. They are also very precise for stacking and counting. They typically weigh anywhere from 9 to 10.5 grams and are perfect for performing skillful chip tricks. Clay Composite often confused with ABS chips are made with at least some Real Clay and are often weighted to give them an equivalent weight of a real clay chip. They are more durable and easy to clean. ABS chips are plastic resin composite chips with real metal inserts to give them the weight of a professional chip. They sound more metallic when throwing them in the pot and are a little more slippery, but still easy to handle. ABS chips are the longest lasting, most affordable chip currently offered. Plastic chips are very light and can be used for children games, or for when ambiance and feel is not necessary. They are hardest to stack and hardest to perform chip tricks with.

What size poker chip set will I need? > While it will be possible to play a 3 or four handed game with a 300 or 400 person set, you wouldn't be able to hold larger tournaments or bankroll a player that gets on a lucky streak. Also, if you ever wanted to expand your set to handle new persons in your game, you have to struggle to find matching chips. For this reason, HomeGamePro.com suggests that you never buy less than a 500 chip set. If you are thinking bigger, like 50 person tournaments, or hosting multiple games, you might consider purchasing multiple 500 chip sets instead of larger sets. When sets go over 500 pieces, they not only get heavy, but the cases tend to be less rigid. 500 chip cases are easy to stack and add flexibility if you wanted to take a single game on the road. We only carry 500 chip sets which allows us to buy them at a significant volume discount and pass the savings on to you. Smaller sets do not cost much less, and 1000 piece sets can be more expensive than two 500 piece sets. If you really want/need a smaller or larger chip set which isn't on our website, please email sales@homegamepro.com.
